1965 version of Uptown Girls

This movie is a one of a kind love story of a nun and a naval officer. If you want a good romance you can sit down and cry to, this movie or Gone with the Wind are the very best two. If you want a love story with comedy, mystery, and Nazi's, this is for you.

Fun Loving movie different from all other Biker Movies

this movie just gives off a reason for just plain going out and having fun, with a little action and adventure and love on the side, Mickey Rourke is great in this movie and Don Johnson just shows people just what it is to have fun, while getting paid doing it, these two are great together and they should do another movie together they just light up the screen with their double duo action and humor!!!I love this movie especially the part where Don has to jump off the roof, very humorous!!!it only goes to 5 stars but if I could I would rate it 10 stars just for the humor!!!

Beyond charming

I am a fanatic for the works of Miyazaki, and this is my favorite among his works. There is no heavy-handed message other than his dislike of Fascism; there are no cute or bizarre animals other than the hero, and cute is just not the word for him; there are adventure, derring-do, light-hearted fight scenes, strong female figures, comic villains, romance, great achievements, a touch of magic, and the typically fanatical Miyazaki attention to detail. This is an atypical light adventure film and is suitable for children from 9 to 99. It's charming, fun, and simply wonderful. Please, buy it.

I can only hope that Amazon will package this in a 3-pack with Nausicaa in the Valley of Wind and My Neighbor Totoro, all due (actually LONG overdue) for simultaneous release. (The official date of release is now Feb. 22, and it will be released with Nausicaa and The Cat Returns; Totoro is not currently scheduled. This is mistifying, as The Cat Returns is actually a sequel to another Ghibli [but not Miyazaki] film that has never been released in the U.S.)

Good Variety!

This DVD is broken down into 7 different 10 - 20 minute workouts. Two upper body, two lower body, abs, streching and a stability ball work out. This is strictly strengthing and toning, so if you're looking to work up a good sweat (like with cardio) this is not the workout for you. That being said, I like to do a 30 - 40 minute cardio routine (Crunch as some great DVDs for this) and then follow it with one of Kathy Smith's 10 minute sections. I have noticed a nice change in my shoulders, and I have increased my weights from 5 pounds each to 8 pounds each. The ab section offers some new exercises, other than the basic crunch/reverse crunch. Kathy says "stick with it and you will get great abs like these guys (referring to the SUPER FIT assistants she has doing the exercises) in six weeks or less." This, of course, is an exaggeration. Although I have seen a nice change in my abs, it would take the average person 6 years or more to get abs like the people on her DVD. I definitely reccommend this as part of a good DVD workout collection.

This movie kicked ass on most accounts.

This is one of my favorite escape movies. The only drawback to it was the hollywoodism of the hacking world. the day i see a GUI that complex that runs that smooth on a corporate mainframe is when we're using far too many resources for looks. if you disregard the fact that it wasn't written by computer geniuses, it's a truly awesome movie.

Spacey Is The Greatest

this film is quite simple: there's a serial killer that kills his victims--who each commit one of the seven deadly sins--as an act for God. brad pitt and morgan freeman have to find him...and then some.
the entire flim is great. all of the editing, musical score, acting, script, camera work--you name it, and this movie's got it. the one thing this movie has that shines the most? kevin spacey. spacey is one of the greatest actors ever. he can take on any part and make it work. since you probably already know this, i'll mention that kevin spacey plays the part of the killer unofficially named "JOhn Doe"(which we only get to see in the latter parts of the movie). if i may say, he is possibly the best realistic killer that the film industry has given us. and of course, he's got everything planned out with his master mind! this film is not as gory as i had heard, but between the gore it does have and the language, it earned the R rating. for those of you who haven't seen it, i won't give the ending away, but trust me, its well worth the wait. "John Doe" is such a well-crafted character. he's not a slasher-type, so don't be expecting this film to give you alot of killing. this film relies much more on suspense and the wonderful acting of spacey (for what parts he is in there). slasher fans shouldn't flock to this one--that's not what the film is about. but if you enjoy the twisted and delusional minds of serial killers with a cause, then you'll love this movie.

M*A*S*H - Season Four (Collector's Edition) - movie DVD cover picture
M*A*S*H Is Number One of All Time! DVD Extras Someday?

Other than M*A*S*H, there's only one other show I can watch repeatedly, and still laugh outloud I (Frasier).

For the episodes themselves, M*A*S*H has never been better, more convenient, and funnier (thanks to long edited scenes rarely seen in syndicated TV)! It's almost like seeing it for the first time. I was surprised to notice that many episodes had close to five (5) minutes edited out in Syndication.

One allure of DVD's, in addition to the Sound and Picture Quality, are the "Extras". Other than the ability to take out the laugh tracks (Yes!), this has none. There are no cast interviews, no bloopers, no Director's/Producers/Writers Commentary, not even Cast Biographies. Even the insert is rather plan and has nothing extra to it. The episode description look as though they were written by some one who hadn't even watched the show. I was hoping for more when the DVD's came out. Like the book "Complete Book of M*A*S*H" was not complete in it's fullest sense by leaving out that which would have made it truly complete (the secondary story lines, etc.), this is not complete in the DVD's fullest sense...the extras we've all come to expect in them. In that respect I am disappointed. But I am not disappointed in having a whole season on only 3 DVD's! I am not disappointed in the quality of the sound and picture (much better than the Video's from Columbia House and the Broadcast versions).

This season introduces us to the series most significant new characters: Harry Morgan as Col. Sherman T. Potter (regular Army -- God help us all!!), and Mike Farrel as Cpt. BJ Honnicutt. While I enjoyed the first three seasons, personally, I like Potter much better than Blake, and BJ more so than Trapper, who had become rather boring (no fault of Wayne Rogers). So this season I think the show simply got much better, both in comedy and in Drama, something it mixed better than any show before or since.

My only other complaint is with their painfully slow release schedule of only two seasons per year. At this rate, it's going to be the end of 2006 before the whole series is available.

Executive Suite - movie DVD cover picture
Classic 50's drama, ripe for rediscovery.

Executive Suite is an often overlooked drama, but I beleive it to be one of the best films of the 1950's. The death of the president of a large furniture company creates a power struggle among the remaining board members. Competing for the top job are William Holden as an idealistic designer and engineer, and Fredric March as the company's chief acccountant. These two spend much of the film jockying other members of the board for their votes. The climactic showdown comes in the form of a board meeting where one man snatches victory from the jaws of defeat, not by force or cunning or even any kind of cleverness, but simply by telling the truth. One of the finest scenes you'll ever see in any film.
Holden and March are both outstanding, with straightforward direction by Robert Wise. One interesting note: this film has no musical score, very rare for a film from the 50's--only the bell from the company's clock tower.
This is a film that should be seen by anyone interested in story structure or conflict resolution. Definitely a film whose time has come again.
