1795 Flashback Continues!

1795 adventures continue in Dark Shadows DVD Collection 6 (VHS Volumes 37-44). In these episodes, Barnabas Collins rises as a vampire and unleashes terror throughout Collinsport. Knowing that he can't go on hurting people, Barnabas begs family servant Ben Stokes to drive a stake through his heart. Ben can't bring himself to do it, however. Barnabas secretly sees Josette and they agree to spend eternity together as vampires. Before he can take her away, Angelique lures her to Widows Hill, where Josette sees a vision of herself as a vampire and she jumps to her death. Naomi Collins attempts to prevent Lt. Nathan Forbes from marrying Millicent Collins (he only wants her for her money). In Victoria's witchcraft trial, Reverend Trask convinces Nathan to testify against Victoria. Nathan betrays Victoria and she is found guilty of witchcraft. Barnabas vows revenge against Trask.
Bonuses include interviews with Roger Davis (Peter Bradford), Lara Parker (Angelique), Louis Edmonds (Joshua Collins), and scenic designer Sy Tomashoff.

AWESOME - this man is a musical genius.

I've had the great pleasure of seeing David Byrne appear twice in London. His performances are nothing short of amazing. Most of this concert was shown on BBC4 and it is a perfect example of just how important and extraordinary this man is. Obviously you should go forth, click and purchase a copy.

sleep on and dream of love.......

Is it fantasy or reality....only Luis Bunuel could have said for sure! Belle de Jour is a thoroughly engaging journey that lacks any definite explanation. We do get a sense that it has to do with a relationship that is failing, and the cause of the failure is the lack of initiative on the husband's part. The main character seems to be so frustrated, sexually, as to either (depending on your interpretation) become a prostitute or develop a fantasy of becoming one. There are so many symbolic and surrealist gestures in the film to twist your mind in so many directions - but in the end we somehow feel rewarded. I think this movie appeals to me for the same reason Hitchcock's 'Vertigo' appeals to me - it is like receiving a whiff of desire or obsession - it just sucks you in!

Haunting movie

This movie is one of the most heartbreaking depictions of the agony of losing a child to a brutal murder.Sissy Spacek and Tom Wilkinson are just amazing as the parents torn apart by grief and anguish at the loss of their son.The justice system in the movie,as in real life, are more concerned about the rights of the accused then the victims of crime. Some have critisized that the pace is too slow but I think it's perfect for this movie. It's so realistic to see the parents struggle and suffer ever day. This isn't the time of movie to just get a few cheap thrills. This movie stays with you and really makes you think.

Maybe The Best Western Ever

SHANE is a great film, but this DVD doesn't quite present it correctly. Paramount released SHANE in 1953. Its intended projection aspect ratio was 1.66:1 (coincidentally the European widescreen cinema aspect ratio; and, very close to our current video favorite, 16:9). Check out this article: en/evolution.htmI haven't watched this DVD carefully enough (I don't enjoy the crop-job, and prefer my memory of seeing it in the theatre) to determine if it was panned/scanned or centered to eliminate edge material, but it definitely does not present the film in the aspect ratio intended for cinema projection in 1953. This is a greater shame, because SHANE was at the vanguard pushing cinema screens to the wider ratios we enjoy today.

Truly preserves the intricacies and wit of Will

Stoppard is a great writer, the same person who wrote the awesome play Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are dead (which I also highly reccomend) This movie is great at preserving the same kind of wit that Shakespeare used in his own writing. Moreover the level of detail and intricacy that is packed into every line of dialogue is amazing. The random references to Shakespearean lines throughout the play are enough to satiate even the most trivia hungry bardolatrist. The way that Stoppard works the text of the play Romeo and Juliet into many different scenes of the movie is very interesting and worth watching. Overall this is a wonderfully written movie with some pretty good acting. Definitely worth the price of admission.

Alias is the best show ever!

I can't believe it! I'm so excited that they are putting Alias out on DVD, I didn't think that they would. Alias is seriously the best show on TV, I can't wait to buy these DVDs!!! Especially since I didn't get to see most of the first season, but I refuse to miss Alias ever since I saw one episode!!
