16 years later still under rated

Jack Burton is the coolest antiheroe of my antiheroes top ten list
He's stupidUseless and funnyHow can't we love a Guy like this one
This movie is not a serious one, it's a comedy, it's an adventure full of special effects and awsome music and outstanding kung fu fights, also it's a modern western
and what surprised me is the fact that must people can't understand this as a starting point.
I mean this movie was not made to won an oscar or somethingIt's only porpouse is to make us have a good time. It's sad that the movie didn't make it well at the box officeI've been sending a lots of emails to John carpenter's web site asking If it's there any possibility of making a sequelbut it's not in there hands they told me that if the studio wants to make a sequel, JC has not problem at all, it's his favorite movie He'll love to make another BTILC.
Will keep our fingers crossed

I first saw Nuremberg in the seventh grade. I don't know about the rest of my class, but I was in tears. I had to leave the room because I was so upset. The most compelling scene, the one that made me start crying, was the scene with the concentration camp footage. Any movie that can make me cry is worth 5 stars in my book.

My first introduction to opera...

I saw this production televised in PBS years back and it was my first introduction to opera...Love and Tragedy: 2 elements Puccini geniusly used to manipulate emotions. This production has updated the opera's setting and casts young singers with fresh voices and energy. I've had this DVD for 2 months now and I just now noticed that Baz Luhrmann directed it. No wonder you could see hints from this opera in Mr. Luhrmann's recent movie, "Moulin Rouge." It was nice to see the "L'amour" sign again.Anyway, this is a very good opera production with good-looking singers who are also good actors. Their voices reveal that they are a young cast but isn't that what this opera is about? "Freedom beauty, truth and above all, LOVE." (Ooops, wrong movie)

Mary J. Blige was off the Chain

WOW, was all i could say after watching this DVD. I have not been to a Mary J Concert since the 2000, "Mary Show", and that was awesome. But this was incredible. For all the true Mary fans that was waiting for Mary to have a tour DVD this is for you... Mary put so much feeling into the songs it was scary. She was hitting every note, and she really bared her soul. I would suggest this DVD to any Mary fan. It also had a few behind the scenes shots, with preparing and at the tour. Mary's vocals went to another level on this one, and as usual she gives her all into it. All I can say is Buy this DVD you will not be dissapointed.

Easily the Best Version but what about the Region!

I love these films! Pure joy! They differ a little from the books but the spirit is spot on! What annoys me is that I cannot buy this pack because it is not in my region (Australia)!!! This whole region thing is a cruel joke. It is especialy unnessesary when it is an old film like this. When will these distributors wake up to themselves???

The Remains of the Day

There aren't many performances in film that translate with such intensity a man's ancestral obsequiousness, and cowardice in the face of duty, than Anthony Hopkins' in the above film. This came out the same year as Philadelphia, the movie that achieved Tom Hanks his first, and much deserved, academy award. As poignant as Tom's portrayal is of an AIDS-afflicted homosexual taking on corporate and social prejudice, however, I really believe Anthony was the superior heir to the accolade. The film received eight nominations in all, including Best Film, Best Actress (Emma Thompson), and Best Actor, and Anthony was coming off an Oscar-winning role for his work in Silence of the Lambs three years prior. Whereas Philadelphia's outstanding appeal is rooted in its obvious social matter, The Remains of the Day is a subtle, probing, and I think an even more tragic painting of a man immured by heritage and dutiful blindness. Based on the book by Kazuo Ishiguro, the story is divested through flashbacks of a retired butler named Stevens (Hopkins) near the end of his life circa 1958. He is engaged in a trek across the English countryside toward a long awaited meeting that he hopes might reconcile his past mistakes. His reminiscences take us back to a period shortly preceding the Second World War, in the estate of the politically inclined Lord Darlington, under whom Stevens serves. He is possessed with a stringent, self-denying will to fulfill his duty, and his thoroughly unsentimental way of life is challenged with the arrival of the new housekeeper, the spirited, idealistic Miss Kenton (Emma Thompson). The film concentrates on the tortured and repressed romance between these two as Darlington Hall becomes embroiled in a political, underhanded affair with the Nazis. It is a thoughtful, masterful film that unveils itself in the shadows and crevices of the manor; the only effect is human emotion. Pay attention to how Hopkins has unearthed the subtleties, in his unsated eyes and breathy hesitations, of a man buried in ignorance and loneliness due to obsessive, familial yeomanry. A man who will not leave the table to attend to his dying father upstairs, also a butler, until his master has been seated. And the final scene, where the dove becomes trapped in a room and is eventually released through the window -watch as Stevens stares curiously after the fleeting, liberated creature and the camera retreats from the window, revealing the breathtaking expanse of the English landscape. This is the world that he has failed to understand and explore. Beautiful. Hopkins proves he is a master: he has exhumed in this character something so personal, hopeful, with such dark realness, and with a quality of humanity, as to leave an audience pulverized.

Choped body parts + Glow in the dark make up jobs = Awsome!

After just a half an hour of watching The Evil Dead I was blown' away at what a great and notable job the collage studnts that made this groudbraker as good as they did, and scary too.As a matter of facted I think reson that The Evil Dead was created so skillfuly buy kids not much older than my 15 year old self, is reson enough to call this cult classic the best( if not one of the best) horror films ever created, just like what almost everyone ealse thinks, even though it takes bits and peaces out other classics like House on Hunted Hill, (the overly long) Night of the Dead seires and my personal favorite The Exoricist.
The story begins with a five collage bubbies going up to the hills for the weaked just to have some fun, but what they get instead is the satanic Book of the Dead wich is an old book put together by human flesh and writen in blood, and it opens the doors to another world I don't anyone would like to spend much time. One by one the kids die in very, very, very bloody ways. That is the reson why even if your expecting alot of gore it might be just to much. Sam Rami shows us brains smashed up, rolling body parts and the whole nine yards as far as lots of gore gose, but I think that how gorey the sepcial effects are is reson to love this even more, because even the special effects have some how faded over the years, but we must remember it was only film studnets that made this the hit was and the hit it deseved to be.
This is a great Special Edition disk in mind, but if you don't own this already you might want to wait for the other Special Edition DVD set to come out in a month or so from right now.
Just in case you don't want to speand the mony on the newer edition that is soon to be released then I beilve this is this edition is worth every penny.
If your a horror fan, and liked this as much as I did then you should pick up a Sepcial Edition copy of The Evil Dead 2, and Amy of Darkness, wich is the third movie from the Evil Dead seirs and is very funny.

Enjoyable Disney movie

"Holes" is a highly entertaining movie for all ages. It contains comedy, western, and action. Such combination gives this movie the unique and creative theme. Some surprises occur, which give it many unexpected twists and turns. Oscar nominee Sigourney Weaver and Oscar winner Jon Voight wonderfully perform their roles with humor and with sass. The duo give "Holes" the western feel that it needs, being the setting and its history. The kids' roles were improvised wonderfully by the producers and the director, whom also filmed the movie wonderfully.
Stanley Yelnats possesses a terrible family curse that his great-great grandfather spreaded: the bloodline will always have bad luck. Stanley's bad luck starts with his criminal accusation of stealing a pair of legendary shoes, which he's innocent. The judge sentences him to 18 months in a juvenile facility. The warden and Mr. Sir force the kids and him to dig one hole a day. However, the kids know little about the land's history, which will lead them to a surprising and hilarious conclusion.
Those looking for a great family movie will enjoy "Holes". Adults will enjoy this as well. Its genre variey gives joy to a broader audience.

This is an excellent story! Nice narration from Caroline Goodall and breath-taking camera action result in the obvious...a horse lover's movie of the year! Thowra is truly an untamed spirit, fuled by his illogical rage towards all men. Or at least one in particular. You will love this movie! I guarantee it.
