Movie to take you from the blues

This movie will pull you from the depths and put a smile on your face. The supporting cast is what brings humor and reality to this movie. I love the book store employee and his droning on about Ringo Starr. Or the quirky sister. I saw this movie when it first came out with a friend, then dragged dh to it the next day. He laughed just as much as I did.
Not your normal love/comedy. Bravo to the supporting characters!!

Reality vs Fantasy

This is a warm, sweet film. Like many others, I saw it, quite by accident, on cable. I've since bought the DVD and am not disappointed. This small, independent film by James F.Robinson is brilliant in concept and delivery. Right off the bat, there are repeated references to Verdi's "La Traviata", the ultimate romantic tragic opera. Things only get better, smarter and more clever. Brendon Fraser is always charming, with his child-like wish for perfection; the rest of the cast handles their roles with aplomb; Ann Magnusen is hard as nails, Tobe Huss as Cameron is the perfect innocent friend, and the great Celeste Holm is there as the granny, delivering the best line in the film: "(He's) redefining an imperfect world in a perfect way". She's crazy as a fox, and totally endearing. The mind-blowing element here is the performance of Joanna Going as Roz, the object of the whole thing. She is perfection...centered and precise in every glance, nuance and delivery. I was very impressed. She deserves a better career, since I haven't really heard of her since. A real talent. The choices of music are also excellent, in addition to the original music of Paul Mills. A rendering of "The Wee Small Hours of the Morning" (performed by Madeleine Peyroux) is most effecive, as well as the final title song, sung by Rita Springer. This is a loving display of (almost) craziness, lovingly presented by a fine director and a stellar cast. Cynics among you may not agree, but there are still a few of us out here that think true love is possible. Also, stay tuned...after the credits are over, there's a dilightful little "stinger". What a fine film!

Great movie to take the kids to see

some reviews have made it seem like the movie isn't any good. well i'm here to say that they don't know anything. first of all who cares if the storyline is shallow! this movie is about action, special effects(which are so cool),and making you laugh at the same time. the first one was great and now the second one is even better. so for all you people who want a good movie to watch this summer go see the mummy returns. and for some of you people who didn't know, this movie is not to be compared with old movies like dracula or the mummy.

I guard the place while the master is away

While I wouldn't go as far as saying this was the best episode up there(such things btw are very subjective, and don't really make sense) it is definetitely one of the best ones. The movie is just terrible and seeing Joel and the bots rip it up is non-stop hilarity. Not to mention the wonderful host segments that really dig into the movie. More people should dress up as Torgo for Halloween!

The most moving cinema experience EVER

I live in the United Kingdom but saw Soldiers Girl on Showtime on a visit to New Jersey earlier this year. I have seen several films that touch on the subject of Transgender relationships ("Different for Girls", "The Crying Game" and "Boys dont cry" to name three) . This one, by far exceeds them all. The film handles the topic in such a compassionate way. I liked the fact that it also explores the Militarys handling of Sexual and Gender issues but manages to keep the two very different subjects seperate and in perspective. No matter what your background, this presentation will make you understand the problems, false stereotypes and misrepresentations facing Transgendered people as well as being entertained by a movie that I haven't come across in many many years. Well done to all that where involved and to you, the reader, BUY IT NOW!

Yusuke is captured! The newest saga begins!!!!!!!!

So, the Dark Tournament is over, but the gang is hardly getting time to rest. Yusuke is captured by three mysterious teens, oh, and did I mention mysterious bugs are appearing around the city of Sarayashiki? Of course, Yusuke getting captured is top priority, and Kuwabara, Botan, Kurama, and Hiei have to come to his rescue. However, when the first member of the group, Yuu Kaitou, someone who is a bit, er, jealous of Kurama, steals the souls of Hiei, Kuwabara, and Botan, can our favorite fox-demon save the day? This DVD is a must-buy for Kurama fans, as it has him using his intelligence to save the day. Heck, he even figures out the mastermind the teens are working for! But as it turns out, the three teens are actually part of a test, to see if Yusuke and co. are ready to face the next challenge..... and his name is Shinobu Sensui, who plans on continuing Sakyo's work!
With plenty of shocks, some more Yoko Kurama, awesome battles, and the death, yes, DEATH, of a main Yu Yu Hakusho character, the Door to Makai(Demon World) saga looks to be a great one! See you on the 17th for volume 21: the Seven, which has Yusuke and co. facing the Doctor, and learning the truth of just what those weird bugs do!

Enjoyably unique

I saw a community stage production of "Joseph" several years ago and loved it. I can't remember all the differences between the stage version I saw and the video version, but I did enjoy both.
I have to count myself as a fan of Maria Friedman as the Narrator. Maybe it's because I'm not a belter, or maybe it's because I'm not a die-hard Joseph fan who is familiar with a certain "sound," but taking her voice for what it is, I found it fantastic.
Donny was suprisingly buff, although when he first came onscreen, I thought he was Michael Jackson. I got used to the hair eventually.
The Costume Controversy... well, I was taken aback at first, but if you've ever read the Bible, you'd be pretty surprised at how graphic THAT can be.
I thought Donny's voice was quite pleasant and expressive, although I prefer a singer to hold out the ends of phrases a bit more than he did. He chops phrases off at the end, which I found distracting.
The Baker and the Butler got amazingly on my nerves. I found them highly creepy.
The Pharoah is my new crush. I think all men should wear that eye makeup all the time. The Brothers were OK, but I really loved the ...what was she called? The dancer? That was a great scene. Were her stockings running? The "rap" bit with the Brothers was also cute.
I also appreciated setting it as a school cantata, although like many other reviewers, I found the children at times obnoxious and the bipping back and forth from story to reality a trifle jarring. But I loved the "Curtain call" at the end. Donny looks FAR finer with short hair than with long, and can he wear a suit!

A Satisfied Viewer

The Surge is such a cool movie. Reeses powers are so cool and with me a goth myself I relate to him....well not with the powers but you get the point. I wish I had the healing powers of reese, the telekenesis of Phoebe, the mind reading of Zack, and the mind control of Ashley. Reese could even heal a broken neck! This movie is amazing. You should deffinetly check it out. I did and now I'm obsessed with it. As Ashley would say: "YOU WILL BUY THIS DVD!" lol.
